Since 2008, TAP has served over 15,000 New Yorkers from all five boroughs, ages 12-24, through over 50 partnerships in family courts, transfer schools, probation sites, alternative-to-incarceration programs, detention centers, prisons and community-based organizations. In 2017, the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment and Department of Probation joined forces to make TAP part of the Made in New York network.
In our groups, young adults from NYC’s most under-resourced neighborhoods produce original stories using the animation pipeline as their guide. The young people we work with are passionate about learning. We teach them how to use classic and cutting-edge tools recommended by our panel of industry advisors. The rigor of technical training and professional expectations are, consistent with our model, paired with the attention of a creative arts therapist to support emotional and social development. At all levels of our programming, it’s not enough to learn the software; young people continuing their personal development, as well as owning and telling their stories is central.
